Lessons learned from my dog
It’s graduation time and commencement speakers will soon share words of
wisdom with new grads. Some lessons shared will be profound, and others quite
simple. What would I share, if invited? Things I learned in graduate school,
principles proven in my consulting career, or tidbits picked up from my own
mistakes? No, I think I’d share lessons I’ve learned from my dog. Here are a

Recently hearing about a new venture by a
92-year-old philanthropist/entrepreneur, I got to thinking about how I often
hear folks so much younger saying “it’s probably too late” to start something
new…something they always wanted to do. Whether you’re 30, 40, 60, or 90…what
would you do if you knew it wasn’t too late?
I know people who have changed careers at 45, left elementary teaching to pursue
a career in fine art at 52, gone back to school in their fifties, or moved to
Europe in their sixties. Personally, after fourteen years in education, I
started my own management consulting business when I was 35, got my PhD when I
was 40, published my first book at 47 (and several others later), began
seriously painting at 62, and –who knows what’s next?
Life isn’t over until you think it is!
